Job Description

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Rhodes College invites applications for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor of computer science beginning in August 2018.

The successful applicant must possess a firm commitment to teaching at a liberal arts college and to continued scholarly activity. Rhodes College is interested in attracting candidates from historically underrepresented groups and/or those with demonstrated commitment to working with diverse and historically underrepresented populations in STEM. Duties of the position include teaching courses at all levels of the undergraduate computer science curriculum; the teaching load is 3-2.
Applicants should hold or expect to receive a Ph.D. in computer science or a closely allied discipline by August 2018. Preference will be given to candidates with a scholarly area that complements those of the department and have an interest in supervising undergraduate research.

The Computer Science section of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Rhodes College is thriving and has grown rapidly in recent years. Faculty have unique opportunities to connect their scholarly activity with a growing community of passionate computer science students. Rhodes has a vibrant culture of undergraduate research, and opportunities for collaboration are numerous. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, FedEx, International Paper, ServiceMaster, Medtronic, AutoZone, CodeCrew, and the University of Memphis are all close by and have existing relationships with Rhodes. This year, the C.S. section moved into a newly renovated building that includes three computer labs, traditional classrooms, a hardware lab, student research space, and faculty offices.
