Job Description

Work to ensure the protection and safety of the Rhodes community; must work under pressure with attention to detail, work with changing priorities, manage numerous programs and events simultaneously and independently, exercise initiative and use discretion. Maintain a constant alertness for signs or indications of unusual or abnormal conditions and provide “first response” service as situations require; Conduct both walking and mobile patrols of interior and exterior locations; Monitor and control parking according to Parking Program specifications; Secure and unlock specific campus facilities; Provide escorts and access to authorized areas as needed. Assist with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies; maintain department records, reports and files as required. Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops as assigned. This position is scheduled to work 10:00 pm to 6:00 am (40 hours/week) with occasional overtime.

Required Education

High school diploma or GED equivalency.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED, valid Driver’s license and Certification (or ability to become certified) as an Unarmed Officer with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance are required. Must possess excellent customer service skills utilizing strong analytical skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills, and be detail-oriented. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle required. Minimum one year of security experience or comparable organizational experience (e.g., military, police and/or safety) preferred. Must be able to pass a background check, pre-employment physical and drug screen. This position requires a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and must be insurable by the College’s insurance carrier.

Preferred Qualifications
Physical Demands

Ability to stand for up to four (4) hours per shift; Ability to walk one (1) mile at a moderate pace; Ability to ascend and descend up to three (3) flights of thirteen (13) stairs while carrying a twenty (20) pound bag at above normal pace in order to respond quickly in emergency situations; Ability to lift forty (40) pounds to shoulder height; Ability to stay awake no less than eight (8) hours. Visual acuity of 20/20, with or without corrective lenses, to inlcude near visual acuity (14 inches) and far visual acuity (20 feet); Ability to hear sufficently to perform the essential functions of the job.
