Job Description

Rhodes College invites applications for a Senior Engineer in Physical Plant. The Senior Engineer performs skilled duties including the operation, installation, maintenance and repair of air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, ventilation and control equipment. Analyzes and maintains chemical treatments for water in cooling towers and boiler systems. Responds to emergencies during evening and nighttime hours. Monitors inventory and reorder parts and supplies as required. Responds to emergencies during evening and nighttime hours. This is a full-time position; 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, Tuesday thru Saturday, with Sunday and Monday off (40 hours/week) with occasional overtime (shift is subject to change based on College needs).

Required Education

High school graduation or GED equivalency preferred

Required Qualifications

Five (5) years’ work experience in A/C and heating field required. First class steam and first class refrigeration license for Memphis/Shelby County required. Valid Driver’s License required. High School Graduation or GED equivalency preferred. Must possess excellent customer service skills utilizing strong analytical skills, excellent communication, interpersonal and administrative skills, and be detail-oriented. Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle required. Ability to see sufficiently to perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to work from a ladder.

Physical Demands

Ability to lift and carry forty (40) pounds; Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds from floor to waist;
Ability to lift forty (40) pounds from waist to shoulder and shoulder to overhead; Ability to tolerate sustained overhead and bending; Ability to work from ladders; Ability to carry equipment weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds up a ladder. Repetitive use of various hand tools. May be exposed to chemical, mechanical or electrical hazards
